After four weeks, the Norwegian campaign has finished with a collection of pictures and stories that highlight the cultural richness around us. Here you have some of them:
" My name is Gabriela Aas Western, and I am 24 years old. In January I traveled to Kenya to visit my fiance and I lived there for 3 months. The trip gave me a lot of nice experiences and memories, and many nice pictures! Here's a picture I want to share. The photo is taken at lake Victoria, on the dunga beach, in the city of Kisumu, located west of Kenya. In the picture we see local fishermen who have arrived to land with their catch, which they sell to local customers."
Johanne has lived in Bolivia and tells: in the picture we see a yatiri, an Indian priest, performing a ritual near a resting place on the bolivian plateau in the Andean Region. I got to come over to watch while he carried out the ritual that went out to burn some cocaine leaves, call in some bells, pour alcohol on the fire and pray a prayer to the pasha, also known as mother earth. The ritual was for the truck driver Fernando, who was going to drive down "el camino de la bribe", which means the death road. The road is known to be the cause of many accidents, and along the side of the road you can see multiple crosses in memory of the dead. The ritual performed by yatirien was to ask for luck and happiness for Fernando on the dangerous route, and since the news the next day did not mention anything about a traffic accident, we could assume Fernando had arrived safely.
Do you like to climb and love challenges? Then you should take a trip to Austria in May. Maxime has told us about an annual tradition known as the "maibaumkraxeln". this is a competition where people fight to climb up a giant tree. The trees are 15 feet tall, and without branches. The goal is to win pretzels and sausages hanging on top. Something for you?
